The success of American cultural imperialism is obvious by the widespread use of English language, adoption of American dressing mode, American names, and imitation of American films and music amongst others (Griffin 1).
Benefits of American culture to the world
The main positive influence of transmitting the American culture is creating homogeneity on the planet. This eases communication by permitting use of a standard language and adoption of tradition (Movius 10). This is beneficial especially in occasions of crisis. Secondly, America spreads common truths and human rights values alongside tradition. Using the media America transmits concepts of freedom of expression, democracy, rights, and equality this is important to residents of authoritarian nations. Additionally, America has contributed to world’s financial development. Through transmitting culture, the countries interact and engage in trade (Arowolo 8).
Threat of American tradition to the world
A part of countries on the planet has chosen to resist the American imperialism. They declare that the American imperialism erodes their cultures (Heinrich 380). For example, merchandise like Spiderman and Batman movies, Pepsi, and Coca cola replace native merchandise. Consequently, this gradually swallows up the tradition of the latter country. Further, nations accuse America of selling their merchandise cheaply. They explain that the cheap merchandise sabotage their locally produced items and the affect the economy as a whole.
In conclusion, the American tradition is widespread all through the world. Evidently, it has both adverse and optimistic results on the host nation. Therefore, the host nation has the duty of filtering the positive from unfavorable effects of the American culture. Overall, human behavior determines cultural imperialism. This human conduct manifests through speech, actions, and artifacts and is dependent upon man’s capability of learning and transmitting information. Therefore, cultural transmission is inevitable. Moreover, culture is not static and is subject to constant change.
